Planting Dewberries:

  • Dewberries can be an invasive species are their roots grow all cross, horizontally, so before you decide to grow dewberries, take this into account as well as how much space you have.
  • You can get dewberry seedlings or cuttings from your local nursery or online.
  • Prepare a good quality, well draining soil in a large enough area that will receive several hours of sun a day.
  • Dig a hole that is large enough to plant the dewberry root ball into – at least a foot deep.
  • Place the root into the hole and cover it up with soil.
  • Space each plant at least 4 feet apart.
  • Water thoroughly until the soil is moist and cover with mulch.
  • Set up a trellis or a stake and tie the dewberry plant around it otherwise the plant will disperse every which way.
