That's right – you can actually grow a small salsa garden right in your backyard so that you can make fresh salsa on the spot. Today you'll learn how to grow a salsa garden in a 4X4 foot bed with easy to follow instructions. Trust us when we say that once you make your own salsa with your own garden grown veggies, you'll never go back to store bought salsa again!
How to Grow a Salsa Garden Instructions
First, make a 4X4 raised bed and fill it in with a good quality potting soil. Divide the bed into 3 different areas: cilantro & onions (area 1), peppers (area 2), tomatoes and tomatillos (areas 3). See illustration below.
Area 1: Cilantro & Onions

- 22 red onions. Check out how to grow onions.
- 10 white onions.
Area 2: Bell Peppers & Jalapenos
- 1 jalapeno pepper plant. Check out how to grow jalapenos.
- 1 bell pepper plant. Check out how to grow bell peppers.
Area 3: Tomatoes or Tomatillos
- Choose either tomatoes or tomatillos. If growing tomatillos, you must have at least 2 plants for cross pollination.

Follow the instructions for each plant by clicking on the links. Plant all of the above vegetables after the last danger of frost in a sunny location. Water regularly, and mulch to retain moisture and keep weeds at bay.
All vegetables should start sprouting around the same time, so you'll be able to harvest all of them together so you can make the freshest salsa ever!
Finally, don't forget to prune your tomatoes and cilantro plants.
