Just because the winter cold is still around, doesn't mean you can't get a head start on your gardening! Believe it or not, you can actually start planting in January , but February is an even better month to plant as it gets closer to the gardening season. So what to plant in February? What to Plant in February
Plant Indoors/Greenhouse:
All of the vegetables below can be started indoors from seeds. Simply follow the instructions on the seed packets OR click on the link of the different veggies.
- Asparagus – sow now, transplant in the spring
- Eggplant – sow now, transplant in the summer.
- Grow basil indoors, and transplant outdoors in the spring/summer, or just leave indoors on a windowsill.
- Celeriac – sow now, transplant in the spring.
- Cucumber – sow now, transplant in the summer.
- Tomato – sow now, transplant in the spring.
- Leeks – sow now, transplant in the spring.
- Large onions – sow now, transplant in the spring.
- Sweet peppers – sow now, transplant in the spring.
Plant Outdoors:
Below is a list of things you can plant outdoors in February as long as the soil isn't frozen!
- Blackberries
- Redcurrants, whitecurrants, blackcurrants, and gooseberries
- Rhubarb
- Strawberries
The above are just guidelines, so make sure to inspect your soil and keep a close eye on the climate. Some winters tend to be harsher than others, or vice versa.
