How to Grow Phlox From Seed
Light: Partly sunny
Type: Perennial
Height: 6 inches to 8 feet
Special Tolerance: Drought tolerant
Zones: 4-8
Planting Phlox:
- Start seeds indoors before the last frost date. Plant 2-3 seeds in each pot or in a small container.
- Plant in seed starting mix and use good quality, well draining soil.
- Moisten the soil by using a spray bottle. Keep the soil moist while germination occurs.
- Loosely cover pots or seed starting kits with plastic to retain moisture and maintain humidity.
- Place the pots in a warm, but not too sunny location.
- Once seedlings have grown, remove plastic and place in a sunny location, making sure to keep soil moist.
Transplanting:
- Once seedlings are about 4-6 inches tall, you may go ahead and transplant them in a sunny spot.
- Make sure all danger of frost has passed.
- Plant in well draining soil.
- Fertilize using a flower fertilizer.
- Since phlox is drought resistant, not much watering is needed, but do check the soil once in a while, especially if you see the leaves drying out.
