Having an herb garden is one of the most useful things you can have in your kitchen or garden! Almost every single recipe calls for some type of herb, and they add a wonderful fragrance to any meal. Growing Herbs in Containers
1. Purchase Seedlings
Whenever possible, it's always best to start your herb garden by purchasing the seedlings. Growing most herbs from seeds can be difficult and frustrating at times, so save yourself time and stress by buying the seedlings from your local nursery. The only exceptions are cilantro and parsley which are quite easy to grow from seed!
2. Choose the Right Container
Choose the right containers for your plants! If you want to use a bigger pot, that's completely fine – that just means your herbs will grow out and spread more, but be mindful they may be more difficult to move. We recommend you use small to medium sized clay pots which are the perfect size for herbs and have good drainage.
3. Plant Each Herb in Its Own Container
You CAN plant herbs together, but then you have to be very careful so one herb doesn't dominate the other. Your best bet is to just give each herb its very own pot!
4. Choose the Right Soil
When planting in pots, it's important to choose the right soil. Choose a potting soil which is light and fluffy and is made especially for growing plants in containers.
5. Water Regularly
Water regularly and constantly check the soil for moistness. Also, be sure to read keep the little labels that the seedlings came with – they can carry a lot of information, especially when it comes to watering!
