The best and easiest way to grow lemongrass is to purchase it directly from your grocery store.

Trim a few inches off the top of the lemongrass and remove any blades that may look dead.

  • Place the lemongrass stalks into a glass with a little bit of water.
  • Place the glass on a windowsill where it will receive full sun.
  • After a few weeks, you should see lemongrass start to grow roots into the water glass.
  • Wait until the roots mature a little bit, and then go ahead and transplant your lemongrass plant into a pot or in your backyard.
  • Use all-purpose soil and plant your lemongrass with the crown just below the surface.
  • Choose a sunny spot and water regularly.

If you live in a warm climate, plant your lemongrass directly into your backyard to keep flies, mosquitoes, and other pests away. If you live in a colder climate, it's best to keep your lemongrass indoor as you'll have easy access to fresh lemongrass at all times.

Happy Planting!
