Allspice pimenta comes from the dried, green berries of Pimenta dioica. Indigenous to the Caribbean, allspice pimenta was used to preserve meats during the 17th century. Though not a mixture of the spices from the actual allspice, allspice pimenta is its own flavor that is derived from the dried berries of the medium sized myrtle tree.

Climate:

Tropical or subtropical climate is needed for the tree to grow. If you don't live in a warm climate, you can also consider growing in a greenhouse.

Planting:

Plant from either seed or purchase a small, established tree from your local nursery. Allspice pimenta is not self fertilizing, so you'll need both male and female trees.

Soil:

Soil should be of good quality and well draining.

Harvest:

The tree will take several years to bear fruit. Once your tree has bore the fruit, you can dry them and then grind them into the actual allspice pimenta spice.
