How to Grow Aloe Vera in Pots
Planting Aloe Vera:
- Aloe vera is grown by purchasing a small aloe plant from your local nursery.
- Plant the aloe vera in a wide pot with well draining potting mix, such as potting mix for succulents and cacti.
- Although aloe vera plants are hardy and don't require a lot of water, non well drained soil can still cause root rot.
- Place your aloe vera plant in direct sunlight.
Caring for Aloe Vera:
- Allow the soil to dry at least 1-2 inches before watering, and water deeply.
- Aloe vera produces offsets, which are essentially little leaflets, or babies, which can be broken off and replanted as a new plant.
Harvesting Aloe Vera Gel:
- To harvest the gel from aloe vera, cut a mature leaf from the bottom.
- Then, cut the leaf lengthwise and scrape or squeeze the gel out.
- Apply the gel directly to the skin, and be careful of clothing or other surfaces, as aloe vera stains.
Happy Planting!
