How to Sprout Lentils Indoors – A DIY Gardening Guide

sprouting lentils

#1. Rinse & Soak

Start by measuring 1 cup of lentils. Inspect the lentils for any dirt or debris, and rinse them really well under cold water. Place your lentils in a large bowl of water and let them soak overnight for about 8-12 hours.

#2. Rinse & Jar

The next morning, strain out the excess water and rinse the lentils yet again. Transfer your lentils to a large jar, filling it with no more than 1/3 of the way with the seeds. There needs to be enough space for adequate growth.

#3. Cover & Rinse

Cover that jar with a piece of cheesecloth and secure it with a rubber band. For the next few days, rinse the lentils by filling the jar with fresh water and then draining it through the cheesecloth. Do this twice a day.

#4. Repeat For 4-5 Days

Repeat the above process (rinsing) twice a day fro 4-5 days or until you see green leaves poke out and start to unfold. Once you see the lentils sprouting, they're ready to harvest and be used in salads, sandwiches, or soups!

NOTE:

You can use this trick to sprout other seeds and beans such as alfalfa, clover, mung, garbanzo, and sunflowers.
